Although the Moto G already comes unlocked when bought directly from Motorola, there will now be a Google Play Edition of the mobile phone.
It is already an extremely popular handset but will now appeal to users who want a fully-stripped version of the device.
The 4.5-inch smartphone comes with the same 1.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and a five-megapixel camera on the back. It also comes running Android 4.4 KitKat and is available in 8GB and 16GB options, though the biggest attraction with the Google Play Edition handsets is that they get updates before everyone else.
The Google-owned company has already started selling the new edition of the handset to give users a plain Android operating system to play around with. It has gone on sale for $179 (£135) for the 8GB version but users will only have to pay $199 (£159) for twice the storage.
