Mobile phones are increasingly being used to access the internet by people around the world, it has been suggested.
Consumers may want to consider mobile phone recycling in order to receive cash to upgrade to a smartphone which allows easier, on-the-go internet access.
Nokia chief executive officer (CEO) Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo told listeners at the Consumer Electronics Show that for the “majority” of people, their only access to the internet will be through handsets.
He said: “For the majority of the world’s people, their first and only access to the internet will be through a mobile device – not a PC.”
He added that mobile communications have played a big role in bringing hope and higher living standards to “literally billions of people”.
The Nokia CEO recently suggested that the company wants to channel energy towards improving lives in the developing world.
