Those who recycle mobile phones may be increasingly turning to smartphones for replacement devices, if the latest figures are anything to go by.
Infonetics has revealed that shipments of the most hi-tech handsets increased by two per cent during the second quarter of 2011.
A slight fall in revenue is explained by the decreasing unit price, which meant overall takings slipped despite more models being sold.
The organisation’s report also found that Apple is one brand performing particularly well, with its smartphone market share rising to 36 per cent during the period.
In order to perform well, technology providers have been advised to offer a desirable range of mobile phones and tablets.
“Just as iPhone users are more likely to buy an iPad as their tablet, so too are Android users more likely to buy Android-based tablets,” explained Richard Webb, directing analyst for microwave and small cells at Infonetics.
Apple could find its market share increases once more later this year if, as expected, it releases the iPhone 5.
