Consumers could wish to join the increasing number of people using a smartphone, following recent research.
Findings from comScore revealed that across the five major European countries – the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy – there are approximately 51.6 million Smartphone subscribers, a 32 per cent rise from the same period last year.
Growth in the market is being driven by the UK with a 70 per cent increase in the number of people signed up for a smartphone in the last year, meaning there are now 11 million users.
Italy is the country with the most people – 15 million – signed up for one of the devices.
Alistair Hill, senior mobile analyst at comScore, said: “Smartphones are generally seen as luxury devices that come with big price tags and high monthly tariffs, yet the largest segment of the market and the one demonstrating greatest momentum is actually the low to mid tier.”
As prices continue to tumble more people will be tempted to purchase one, he suggested.
It has recently been reported that more than a quarter – 26.5 per cent – of mobile recycling in Western Europe takes place in the UK.
