The EU has come up with a solution for the many people who frequently have issues with charging their mobile phones, in the form of a universal charger.

A provisional deal on an EU law states that mobile phone companies will have to produce a charger that will fit any model of phone, and manufacture their handsets to work with it.

Once this deal has been finalised, EU members will be given two years to bring it into effect. Mobile phone manufacturers will then be given an additional year to make the changes.

With all this taken into consideration, it will be 2017 before the universal charger law comes into effect.

The reason given for this decision is that the EU wants to reduce the waste caused by the manufacturing of many different varieties of charger.
