Parents may find they have plenty to gain by investing in the latest mobile phones for their sons and daughters.
Adam, author of the Nokia Conversations blog, says the easy option is to deem children too young for technology, but this shows ignorance of the benefits models can bring.
For example, boys and girls with their own device are likely to be part of the digital revolution, which is now sweeping the world and will one day be considered the norm.
Mobiles also give youngsters the opportunity to develop networks with friends via social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as enjoy access to information that can help with education, Adam notes.
He goes on to suggest those who have a phone will go on to form stronger relationships with people.
Research by Experian Hitwise announced this week found social networking is now the most popular online activity among web users.
