Trading in an old mobile phone and upgrading to a device that uses the Android operating system may be a good idea for all those who wish to enjoy greater mapping services.
Google has announced a significant improvement to its Google Maps feature that will be compatible with all handsets working on the system.
The first part of the updated Google Maps concerns the introduction of a new review guide, with restaurants, attractions and facilities all rated by those who access the technology.
A colour-coded bar is present on the display screen that gives an illustrated view of just how highly rated a venue is by other users of Google Maps.
Also present on the new version is live information on public transport, with people able to tap on any bus or train station to see a constantly updated timetable.
People who do not wish to try out an Android-powered phone could instead choose a device by Nokia, which offer access to the Finnish firm’s Ovi Maps.
