Providing mobile phone users with advertising on their handset can notify them about products they would be interested in purchasing, it has been suggested.
Research published by the Internet Advertising Bureau found that the click-through rate online was 150 per cent greater amongst people that have been exposed to – and remembered – a mobile ad.
The findings could prove important as an increasing number of people choose to access the internet from their mobile phone.
Matt McNeil, founder of Sign-Up.to, said: "We’ve definitely seen the market accelerate over the last 12 months as people have begun to realise the opportunities that mobile marketing can offer."
He added that the increasing market dominance of smartphones is opening up a whole realm of new possibilities and allows people to interact outside of the desk top.
According to the Global System for Mobile Communications Association 16 million people in the UK used their mobile phones to access the internet.
