Mobile phone recycling has been encouraged due to the benefits it can have for the environment.
People in the north-east of England have been told by JournalLive that “mobile phone recycling can, and does, make a real difference to our planet”.
The newspaper suggests that many mobile phones are upgraded for fashion purposes rather than because they are unusable or worn out and that with this in mind they could be re-usable or recyclable.
Individual elements of every mobile phone can be re-used and that in most handsets “the batteries are usually in need of only a minor refurbishment and are perfectly fit for re-use”.
Re-using existing mobile phone parts cuts down on the need to manufacture new ones, but it also means a reduction in the energy required to produce new products is caused.
