It has been reported that the next iPhone could let users buy products and share files through near field communication (NFC).

Code pulled from the Pre-Engineering Verification Testing by 9to5Mac suggests that NFC chips and an antenna will be built into this year's iPhone.

The release of the new device is being eagerly anticipated, with editor of Shapur Azizpour recently suggesting that it is the mobile phone that everyone is waiting for.

If the use of NFC chips is true it would mean Apple has finally moved in the mobile payments market, as it will allow users to purchase goods and services directly through their smartphones.

Chief technology officer of SITA Jim Peters told the news provider that he expected Apple to incorporate the technology soon.

"This is going to happen. By the end of the year the majority of smartphones that you go and buy will have NFC on them. If in October the next iPhone comes out and it has NFC on it, it's game over," he added.
