Speculation is circulating about the Huawei Ascend P2 ahead of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event, and sources suggest that the mobile phone could feature an eight-core processor.

Premium mobile phones, like the Sony Xperia Z and LG Nexus 4, tend to sport quad-core CPUs, but it looks as though handset performance is set to evolve.

A more powerful processing chip should translate into a speedier and smoother experience for gadget users, especially during demanding situations like multi-tasking.

Samsung unveiled an Exynos 5 Octa CPU at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013, and this sparked rumours that it could be incorporated into the upcoming Galaxy S4 or Note 3 devices.

Rumours reported in GizChina suggest that the Huawei Ascend P2 will feature other impressive specifications, including a 4.7-inch FHD screen and a 13-megapixel camera.

The website has also published alleged pictures of the handset, which seem to show a host of home-screen widgets and apps characteristic of the Android operating system.
