A Huawei executive was caught on video showing the manufacturer’s Ascend Mate mobile phone, which was due to be unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2013.
The gadget event, which is set to take place between January 8th and 11th, is likely to be the venue for numerous handset debuts.
Recipients of gift vouchers and cash this Christmas may therefore opt for a new smartphone when it comes to January.
Huawei’s new device is rumoured to have a 6.1-inch screen, making it much larger than the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 phone-come-tablet device.
A larger display can make watching movies and playing games more convenient and enjoyable, but it does make it more difficult to hold and carry.
This size means that the gadget is heading close to the seven-inch tablet market, which is currently dominated by computers like the Apple iPad Mini and Google Nexus 7.
A powerful battery will be required to run this huge screen, and there is speculation that an impressive 4,000 mAh pack will be included.
