Mobile phone users on the O2 network will be able to take advantage of a new app which offers news, animations and tour information for the band Gorillaz.
Formed by Blur frontman Damon Albarn and designer Jamie Hewlett, the group is set to play the O2 arena in September and iPhone users on the network can also get priority booking for the event.
The campaign involves augmented reality technology, with special codes being printed on various media related to the performances, allowing fans to view exclusive animations when a picture is taken.
Sally Cowdry, UK marketing director at O2, said: “This arrangement goes far beyond standard activity between brand and artist. It’s a pioneering collaboration through which we will innovatively demonstrate the benefits of our Priority tickets and promote the UK tour.”
Apple enthusiasts will also be able to stay with O2 when the iPad is launched in the UK on May 28th, after it announced dedicated data tariffs for the device.
