Google Play now reportedly has 700,000 applications available for download, putting offerings on a par with the Apple App Store.
Previously, many customers had been motivated to buy an Apple iOS device over a mobile phone utilising the Google Android operating system since there were more tools and games on offer.
However, it seems that this is now no longer the case and those who own the Samsung Galaxy S3 have just as many applications at their fingertips as iPhone 5 owners.
Those who buy gadgets powered by the new Microsoft Windows Phone 8 (WP8) firmware will be able to choose from 120,000 apps on the Windows Store.
The majority of smartphone owners will be able to install popular games and tools to their smartphone, to make it a more varied entertainment system and increase capabilities.
Angry Birds is one of the most famous games available. It is is free through Google Play, but costs £0.69 on the App Store.
