Android smartphone owners could be in for a nice surprise during their next birthday, with gift cards now available to redeem in the Google Play store.
They can be purchased from Tesco and Morrisons supermarkets in the UK and topped up with £10, £25 or £50 worth of credit to then spend on apps, games, books, music, magazines or films.
It is a move which mirrors similar efforts by Apple, which has made vouchers available for iTunes for some time now.
Google is expected to sell the gift cards in more UK stores if it agrees partnerships with other retailers.
Earlier this week Google Play celebrated its first birthday after being installed on devices in place of the Android Market.
It has proved to be a major success and has grown from just apps and games to include magazine subscriptions, music and film rentals over the course of the past 365 days.
