The Palm Pre may be a smartphone well worth the attention it is currently getting – but it may struggle against one of its main rivals, according to an expert.

A spokesman from, a consumer electronics website which offers news and reviews on the latest phones and gadgets, said it was likely that the Apple iPhone 3G S would still be a more desired device.

Kieran Alger, editor of the publication, said the Palm Pre was definitely a “worthy challenger” to the touchscreen dominance of its fiercest competitor, but added there were some areas where it is lacking.

“The multitasking abilities of the web [operating system] are excellent but the hardware still feels a little cheap. I think it really needed to be something special to break the consumer’s love affair with the iPhone design,” he explained.

Announced on June 8th 2009, the Apple iPhone 3G S is expected to be twice as fast as its predecessor, with a longer battery life, improved camera facilities and an enhanced 3.0 operating system.
