Improvements in the environmentally-friendly nature of mobile phones will help to drive the industry during the global economic slump, it has been claimed.
Nokia chief executive Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo told delegates at a press conference at the Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona that 2009 would be a challenging year for the mobile industry, but suggested Nokia‘s “environmental leadership” would help the firm to weather the storm.
“Environmental leadership is a about more than just creating green devices,” VNUnet reported him as saying.
“The company also has to look at how it works as a whole, and make sure it looks at every aspect of its operation.”
Meanwhile, Kai Oistamo, executive vice president of new devices at Nokia, unveiled two new devices that would provide more energy efficiency.
“Efficiency is about doing more with less and focusing on what’s truly essential,” he said.
Mobile companies are increasingly looking at new ways to improve their environmental performance in a bid to remain competitive in the crowded marketplace.
Businesses were recently advised by Business Link that going green can help them to save money.
