Trading-in a mobile for money may be the first step on a path towards owning one of Britain's most popular range of smartphones – those made by BlackBerry.
New research by business analyst group GFK shows the brand sold more devices than any other in its sector during December, enjoying a 36 per cent market share in the process.
It is estimated that some half a million BlackBerrys were snapped up in the 31-day period.
Stephen Bates, UK managing director of Research in Motion, the firm behind BlackBerry, says: "December was a record month for us – with around 11 BlackBerrys sold every minute. The strength of sales in 2010 confirms BlackBerry's leadership position in the UK smartphone market."
GFK adds it appears that the company is no longer reliant on businesses for sales, with many social users now switching to the firm.
Among the models BlackBerry offers are Torch, Bold, Curve and Pearl.
