Thirty-seven per cent of smartphone owners have purchased something via the internet with their handset in the past six months, research has found.
Mobile phone recycling may be an option that consumers want to consider if they would like to take advantage of the capabilities of a smartphone – such as a BlackBerry or an Apple iPhone – for internet shopping.
The Smartphone Intelligence study by Compete revealed that almost one fifth of smartphone owners have purchased music via their phone, 14 per cent have bought DVDs, books or video games and 12 per cent have bought movie tickets.
Consumers are also using their handsets to check prices at other locations while shopping in-store, the survey suggested.
Danielle Nohe, director of consumer technologies for Compete, said: "Retailers are beginning to recognize that smartphone use is no longer limited to an exclusive group of tech savvy consumers."
