UK firms may be shrewd to invest in a set of Apple iPhones, which can be used to host video meetings and multi-participant calls between various staff.

Nathan MacDonald, managing partner at We Are Social, says online social media will make it easy for companies to turn to technology instead of face-to-face appointments.

"There are regular examples of people using social media to field interview questions instead of having to call in, and with conferences people are willing to transfer the real-world conference into social media," he explains.

An Apple iPhone may be at the top of the list for many businesses that are thinking of improving their range of hi-tech handsets.

Mr MacDonald also notes social events – such as the work Christmas party – can be transferred online, with networking sites ideal for discussing details and making arrangements.

The blur Group recently announced it is to hold its festive gathering entirely via Twitter in order to save cash, which will be donated to charity.
