A new BT SmartTalk app could help both Apple iPhone and Android device owners to save money on their bill.
BT customers are able to take advantage of landline tariffs through their smartphone as long as they have a Wi-Fi connection.
Mobile operators often charge higher fees for calls to 0845 or foreign numbers, and it is usually cheaper to dial them from a home phone.
Users who frequently need to call customer service lines or relatives living abroad on-the-go can therefore benefit from substantially lower bills.
Those connected to the internet when abroad can also call loved ones back home for the same price as they would from their living room landline.
The tool is available for free through both the App Store and Google Play, meaning those with devices like the Apple iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 can take advantage.
The telecommunications company's broadband customers can also install apps like BT Wi-Fi, which provides free access to over four million internet hotspots.
