The money earned from selling mobile phones to eco-friendly companies such as Mazuma could be used by many people to ensure they have access to the best broadband service on their new device.
Findings by Broadband Genie have shown that a significant number of consumers rate super-fast internet connectivity as a must-have.
It suggested that the majority of people are even happy to pay more just to ensure they enjoy the fastest speeds on the market.
Less than 40 per cent of respondents to the organisation's poll said they would not up their spending on broadband.
"The people that really want superfast fibre broadband are the millions who live in less profitable areas ignored by BT and Virgin Media alike," said Broadband Genie editor Chris Marling.
This could lead to many in rural areas and those away from large cities splashing out on web access.
Clodagh Murphy, director at Eclipse Internet, recently said it is important the UK rolls out broadband across the whole country.
