Apple has filed a patent which may see it enable its mobile phones to control cars which are compatible with the iPhone.
The "self-configurable environment" patent concerns a device-controlled system, which will automatically customise a car to your personal preferences. This could include settings such as seat and mirror positioning, climate control, steering wheel adjustment, radio preference and plenty of other things.
It wouldn't work in any car as they would need to be compatible with the software, but the plans seem to indicate that the company wouldn't stop at vehicles. The patent indicates that a similar system would work in your home, adjusting your lighting, heating and entertainment systems.
The "Automatic Configuration of Self-Configurable Environments" patent was originally filed on January 30th 2012 but we're only just seeing it now so it's unclear when this technology may emerge, if it ever does.
