More people in the UK could be trading in their old mobile phones in order to upgrade to smartphones.
Orange UK said that the easily-accessible and user-friendly internet on such devices mean they are a popular choice with consumers.
Antony Keyworth, director of product marketing for the network operator, commented on the adoption of smartphones, after a recent ABI Research report revealed that entry-level handsets and falling smartphone prices have boosted uptake.
“The latest smartphones running on Android and iPhone and touchscreens make interaction much easier. We’ve seen a greater use of cameras [and] the interoperability of the applications,” he stated.
Furthermore, the attraction of applications could mean more people decide to sell their old mobile phone so they can upgrade to iPhone and Android-based handsets to take advantage of such features.
The ABI Research found that the fourth quarter of 2009 saw Apple enjoy its best quarter of record for smartphone shipments.
