Despite Apple refusing to launch the iPhone 5, instead revealing details of a new iPhone 4S, thousands of people have taken to with a view to recycling their mobile phone.

There was widespread speculation that the US company was set to confirm the release of the much-anticipated model yesterday (October 4th), which turned out to be untrue.

Apple has, however, announced a new iPhone 4S will be released in the UK on October 14th, which could be of equal interest to consumers.

And if visitor numbers to Mazuma’s online recycling portal are to be believed, the news has caused a major stir.

Charlo Carabott, managing director at the company, admitted many Apple fans might be disappointed by the continued elusiveness of the iPhone 5.

However, he noted that there is still a high level of hits being reported on the website, more than half of which are related to iPhones.

“The ability to recycle their old iPhone model to pay for an upgrade is an attractive option for consumers,” Mr Carabott stated.

Mazuma’s site has been receiving roughly 30,000 hits per day in the run-up to the expected iPhone 5 announcement.
