The Apple iPhone 3G and its follow-up S model have succeeded in bringing a host of new products to consumers, it has been advised.
A spokesman for What Mobile magazine, a monthly publication that looks at the latest phones and technology developments, said many manufacturers have been playing catch up with the gadget since it was launched.
Jonathan Morris, editor at the resource, explained the introduction of the manufacturer’s online App Store – where iPhone users can download games and other more lifestyle-based software – had been integral in the gadget’s success.
"The iPhone has established a new market segment of its own, just as Apple has its niche in the PC-dominated computer world," he added.
However, when it comes to the mobile phones of the future, Mr Morris said other firms need to stop emulating Apple and try to find the next big thing.
The Apple iPhone 3G S was launched last month and is available now on O2.
