Phone users who choose to join the tablet revolution this Christmas, perhaps after recycling their mobile, are likely to opt for the Apple iPad.
Nick Hide, writing for CNET UK, explains online retailer Amazon has seen its Kindle ebook reader enjoy a positive first year in sales terms, but it has still fallen short of the iPad.
Indeed, he notes the tablet had racked up sales of 7.5 million by the end of September, with many more to come in the run-up to the festive season.
"The iPad and Kindle are at the forefront of a tech movement to put entertainment in people's hands, in gadgets that are easier to use and enjoy than mobile phones," Mr Hide states, arguably giving consumers an incentive to trade-in their mobile.
As well as launching the iPad this year, Apple released its iPhone 4 in June and an article on T3 recently suggested it may already be plotting the next model.
