Mobile phone juggernaut Apple has been granted a patent covering a new feature that can decide the best way to contact someone depending on your situation.
The technology outlined in the patent uses GPS and accelerometer to discover where you are and what it is you’re doing at the time. With this information it judges what is the best method when someone tries to call or text you.
If the GPS detects that you are driving it will send a message to the person trying to contact you to let them know why you aren’t responding and that sending a text message is a safer option
Users can also define certain rules like “no phone at the cinema” so that you’re not interrupting other movie-goers with your conversation.
The patent was first filed in 2008 and if the company has been improving the technology since then, it may not be that long until we see it in iPhones.
