Apple has announced an event on March 7th at which the company is expected to unveil the latest in its iPad tablet range.
While the company has not officially confirmed the product's launch, an invitation sent to the world's media stated "We have something you really have to see. And Touch" and it was accompanied by an image of what looked like an iPad touchscreen.
The iPad range, which initially launched in 2010 has sold more than 50 million units worldwide.
Sales of the iPad 2 began in the US just nine days after the launch announcement, which could give mobile phone users hope that the new device may be available in the next few weeks.
Apple's first two versions of the iPad transformed the market for tablet computers and it has since become one of the fastest-growing sectors of the computer industry.
The firm is currently in legal proceedings with Chinese company Proview over the use of the name iPad, with the Asian organisation recently appealing for all iPad shipments in and out of the country to be stopped.
