A survey has shown that Apple has managed to cement its dominance as the most popular mobile phone platform among application developers, ahead of Google's Android and Research In Motion.
It asked developers if they were interested in writing programs for various devices and Google's Android slipped even though sales of the devices appear to be going from strength to strength.
This drop could have been down to the recent negativity surrounding Android apps as a recent study commissioned by Channel 4 News found that many free applications on the operating system are passing on user information to advertising networks.
Strategist at Appcelerator – the firm behind the survey in conjunction with IDC – Mike King said a fragmentation of the platform, which Google can't seem to do anything about, is driving this drop.
"The engagement with the developers gives Google the ability to punch well above its weight in terms of mobile and social," King said.
