The Apple App Store has been ranked as the best mobile phone application storefront, beating competitors like Google Play for Android.
It received this accolade partially due to the huge selection of tools and games, which have gone through a rigorous quality control process.
However, ABI Research’s Competitive Assessment considered Microsoft’s service superior in terms of innovation.
Rather than depending on raw download data, the Windows Store utilises information like retention rates and customer satisfaction in order to construct top ten charts.
Senior analyst Aapo Markkanen said: “Although Apple has done a great job capitalising on App Store’s head start as an app distributor, it should really start re-thinking the way it charts the top apps.”
This tool, which is available on smartphones like the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC 8X, has around 150,000 apps published, whereas the App Store offers more than four-times this number.
Nevertheless, users can still download some of the most popular games like Cut the Rope, Fruit Ninja, Doodle Jump and The Sims 3.
