Apple today announced that more than three billion apps have been downloaded from its App Store by iPhone and iPod Touch users worldwide since its launch.
Consumers may want to consider trading in their old mobile to upgrade to an iPhone, with Vodafone set to be the latest network to make the handset available from January 14th.
Users of the iPhone in 77 countries worldwide can choose from thousands of apps in 20 categories, including business, news, sports, games, health, reference and travel.
"Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months – this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before", said Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive officer.
He added that "the revolutionary" App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience that is unlike anything available on other mobile devices and that the company sees "no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon".
