Over the weekend numerous images have emerged of the upcoming Moto X including one of the Google chairman Eric Schmidt holding an unconfirmed mobile phone to his ear.

However, hours after the search engine boss was caught holding an unknown device, more images were published on the internet claiming to be the Motorola handset.

According to Android Central, it received a photo of a user who claimed to be holding the upcoming device. The latest image indicates the Moto X will be much larger than five inches like many of its recent rivals.

The general appearance of the smartphone echoes that of the Google Nexus 4 which was released last year. It also shows the device to be covered in "confidential Motorola property" stickers which indicate that it could be the genuine article.
