According to a recent report, Android clearly has a comfortable dominance on mobile phones with 80 per cent of all devices running the Google-owned operating system.
Strategy Analytics' latest report shows that Android has managed this incredible feat despite fierce competition from Windows Phone 8 and Apple's iOS. It also reveals that the dominant software is the main driving force behind the constant climb of the entire industry.
"Global smartphone shipments grew 47 per cent annually from 156.5 million units in Q2 2012 to 229.6 million in Q2 2013. Growth was driven by strong demand for Android models across all price-tiers in developed and developing markets, such as the US, China and Brazil," said Scott Bicheno, senior analyst at the firm.
However, the fact that Android has grabbed itself a ten per cent extra share of the market means that some have lost parts of their share. Apple's iOS has dropped by 14 per cent which is its lowest since Q2 2010.
